Grendel and Beowolf, Jackel and Hyde, Dave and Hal are all examples of the theme Man vs. Beast.  Man versus beast usually represents man struggling to fight nature.  The beast represents nature, and man represents everyone.  You can relate this back to any kid cartoon, movie, and serious novels.

Like in Beauty and the Beast, Bell struggles with Beast(the beast). The whole movie is about her trying to make him a normal man.  Little did she know that he was once a man, but was heartless.  So he was turned into a beast.  He pretty got turned in to how he was acting.  You all know the saying “You are what you eat”, well in this case “you are how you act”. If you act like a child then you’re a child. If you act like a beast, then you are a beast.

I think that there is a beast in everyone.  Some people might not have released the beast.  While others might have learned to tame it. My brother had bad anger problems and he would flip out over little things. His beast would come out when he was mad. Well he started karate and learned to control his anger or the beast and everything is good again. There are things that could help control your inner beast.  A poem from 101 Great American Poems that relates to this is would be “Richard Coy”.  Here is this perfect man that everyone thinks is a nice, happy go lucky guy. Then one night his inner beast comes out and he kills himself. The beast over takes him and he dies.

Cacaphony Poem

Sacrifice

Twas the darkest before dawn

Or the dawn became the darkest

To sell his life, like a pawn

I know he tried so hard, his very best

For everyone’s sins he took his life

Unselfish he was, selfless he did

He sacraficed his life so easy as a cut with a knife

Oh how he saved everyone, even your kids.

Everybody at one point will obtain knowledge that they could share with the world.  Every one person will make a contribution to society or the world.  Some may have already done it, and others could still be waiting for it to come to them.

I don’t that I have obtained this knowledge yet to share to the world. I do not have this knowledge because my monomythic journey is not complete.  I think sometime in my life I will aquire this knowledge that I will be able to share and maybe even contribute to the world. That should be everyone’s goal, to aquire knowledge to share with the world.

From the 101 Great American Poems book the poem “The Lesson” goes right with this theme.  The title pretty much makes it stand out. When you listen you become smarter. When you’re smarter you can share that knowledge with the world.  It all follows the course.

Enjambment Poem

Kings We Seem

A team as one we celebrate,

it was like a hot debate

A tough debate we thought we’d lose

Our hearts were as fragile as a bruise

We won the game all together

we threw our gloves made of leather.

The crowd was going crazy

I was so happy my memory was hazy

Me and my friends felt like kings

We got our trophies made of bling

This was the end of our perfect story

Me and my team celebrated our glory

Terza Rima Poem

The final Pitch

The count is full, my team is on the line,

We’re scared of what might happen if we lose this,

All the glory that we’d share together today

I hope this pitch is right where we need it

The ball comes I close my eyes and hope we win

Quiz – Monomyth of Our life

My life is just one giant monomyth waiting to unfold.  I’m going to tell you about a specific time in my life where I follow the Heroes journey.  I grew up in the big city of  Wichita Falls Texas.  I was comfortable there, i had great friends, a job, everything was good.  Then i got the news that my dad got a job in Pennsylvania, and that we were moving right before my senior year started.

Well it starts out that call was my dad getting the job, i had to except the call because there was no other options.   Well we moved to the smallest town in america.  I hated it here. I was so depressed that i didn’t care about making friends.  I got asked hang out with people but i just refused.  I refused the call.  You could say that my mom was the guardian archetype because she would constantly try to help me accomplish my task. well for about a couple of months i refused the call until i got a phone call from one of the few people i talked to at school.

He asked me to hang out with him and his cousin.  Well i was a little skeptical about it but i did hang out. I did hang out with them and so i answered the call.  Well good thing i did answer the call because me and his cousin started dating and we’re still together now.  I would say that this followed the monomyth perfectly.  My task that i was trying to accomplish was happiness with ones self.  I accomplished my task and am truly happy now.  My monomyth is complete for that part of my life

When I was about 12 years old, me and my best friend got selected to the all star team.  We were suprised because the competition was really tough, there were some really good kids and we were lucky enough to be selected.  Well we played teams from all over California and ended up beating them all.  We were undefeated and won our district and it was the farthest the team has ever been.

Me, my best friend Dustin, and the rest of the team were ecstatic.  We felt like we were above everyone else.  We felt like gods.  The crowd was going crazy because of what we did.  The newspaper was interviewing us and our coach.  Even the News station were there filming our accomplishments.

This was probably the highlight of my year.  Me and the team were so happy, nothing could bring us down. A poem from 101 great american poems that matches this would be Casey at Bat.  This is almost the same situation in my apotheosis.  Casey hits the winning run in and everyone goes crazy. They celebrate winning and feel like gods.

Classicism Poem

Beauty of a Goddess

With a body so stunning and so pure

With eyes that deceitful and also alure

Standing so perfect, with perfect perception

Too beautiful using the art of deception

How can someone be so perfect?

For she is a goddess and has that effect

If she were to appear before you

Amazed you will be, as I will be too.

In my paper I am going to write about my Monomyth.  I’m going to tell about me moving from Texas to Pennsylvania.  my dad got a call for a job in Pennsylvania.  My parents were from Pennsylvania and wanted to come back but I wanted to stay in Texas.  It was my senior year and i wanted to stay and finish it out. It was out of the question.

I’m going to talk about how hard it was adjusting from a big city to a small town in Pennsylvania. Some of the obstacles would be me actually driving to Pa, and how I was depressed from leaving my friends in Texas.  My story goes through the monomyth and I am the star of my story.  When i first moved here I was anti social, i didn’t want to replace my old friends with new ones here.  I hated it here and was actually depressed.  Eventually I start to enjoy myself and meet new friends and become happy again.
